When most people think of France, they see stunning Parisian streets, the sparkling Eiffel Tower and the romantic River Seine. France is incredibly diverse, with its array of cultural and heritage attractions, and fascinating historic sites, but there’s plenty more to explore along the coastlines and countryside. Charming wine-growing villages line the banks of the rivers, mountain peaks soar in the French Alps, and the gorgeous southern resorts of the Cote d’Azur are peppered with elegant hotels and stylish bars. Whether you choose to visit for a short break, summer holiday, river cruise or festive escape, say ‘bonjour’ to the country of romance and fall in love with everything on offer.

France

France Highlights

France has a myriad of World Heritage Sites – locations deemed by UNESCO to have true value and significance, whether it be culturally, scientifically, or other. There are seven of these incredible sites across our tours – including the glorious River Seine in the heart of Paris and the magical tidal island, Mont Saint-Michel, with its incredible, gravity-defying abbey. This island can be spotted from the coast, in Brittany Bay, which is known for its extravagant churches and castles. With its incredible Gothic architecture and Renaissance buildings, charming Rouen is also a must-see, especially the remarkable Gros Horloge, a 14th century astronomical clock embedded in a magnificent Renaissance archway. Beyond city life, France has such spectacular scenery, rivers, valleys, and fields, as well as its incredible coast. Renowned for its summer film festival, the resort town of Cannes has kept its small-town beauty but added sophistication and fashion with its wide range of luxury shops and gourmet restaurants. Coach holidays to France have been a firm-favourite with British holidaymakers for decades, and with its fantastic cuisine, world-famous wines and top-quality attractions, it’s easy to see why.

Food and Drink

Escargot

Escargot, or snails, are a very well-known and popular French delicacy, a unique appetizer for those who haven’t tried them before. With a chewy and smooth texture, the snails are generally cooked with butter, and can be topped with garlic and parsley for taste.

Wine

As one of the largest producers of wine in the world, France is renowned for its wide selections of wines, sold internationally due to the high quality and trusted history. Head to Bordeaux for your reds, Loire for your white, and Provence for rosé.

Cheese

Indulge in some of the best and most popular cheeses in the world in their country of origin. Combine your favourites, like camembert, Roquefort or brie, with bread, or enjoy an incredible cheese board – the options are endless!

Cuisses de Grenouille

Cuisses de Grenouille, or frog legs, are a unique but well-known French delicacy. Part of the national diet of France, the legs are either fried or grilled, with a taste that has been compared to chicken.

Planning your Trip

With so much on offer, you might need some inspiration! We’ve hand-picked a selection of favourite destinations and provided an overview of the very best highlights...

Strasbourg

Strasbourg Highlights

Strasbourg Cathedral

With its soaring tower, outstanding stained-glass windows, and hundreds of ornamental sculptures on the façade, Strasbourg Cathedral is considered one of the most beautiful Gothic structures in Europe – a must-see for any visit to the city!

Petite France

Lined with charming inns and flower-bedecked timbered houses, Strasbourg’s ‘Petite France’ is exceptionally beautiful. The district was once where fishermen, millers and tanners lived and worked due to their constant need for water – today, the glistening waters of the River Ill give the district an undeniable charm.

Palais Rohan

Nestled on the banks on the River Ill, the elegant 18th century Palais Rohan is the former residence of the prince-bishops and cardinals of the House of Rohan. The exterior is a masterpiece of French Baroque architecture, whilst inside three museums showcase impressive collections of fine arts, archaeological findings, and decorative arts including ceramics, furniture and timepieces.

Paris

Paris Highlights

Eiffel Tower

One of the most popular tourist attractions in the world, the Eiffel Tower is undoubtedly the symbol of Paris. Considered a feat of architecture, the four pillars that support this remarkable monument are enough to leave anyone awestruck, whilst the Eiffel Tower Gardens are equally beautiful with their rich variety of flora and romantic pathways.

Louvre Museum

The most-visited museum in the world, the Louvre boasts a treasure trove of artwork spanning from ancient civilizations to the mid-19th century. Explore a maze of galleries, admire classical sculptures and statues, and be sure to see masterpieces such as the Venus de Milo, the Les Noces de Cana and, of course, the Mona Lisa.

Arc de Triomphe

Bearing the names of generals and great victories from the Revolution and the First Empire, the Arc de Triomphe stands on the beautiful Champs-Élysées. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is buried at the base of the arch, and the Flame of Remembrance has been ignited here every evening since 11th November 1923.

Brittany

Brittany Highlights

Mont St. Michel

Like something out of a fairy tale, Mont St. Michel is a unique island crowned by a majestic abbey. A masterpiece of medieval architecture, legend has it that the abbey was founded in the 8th century when the Bishop of Avranches was visited by the Archangel Michael in a dream.

Vannes

Tucked away at the back of the Gulf of Morbihan, Vannes offers tree-lined quays, traditional houses, and a beautiful Old Town that is dominated by the magnificent Cathédrale de St Pierre. Look out for the amusing carving of ‘Mr and Mrs Vannes’ in Place Valencia!

Dinan

Distinguished by half-timbered houses, cobblestone streets and medieval monuments, Dinan is one of Brittany’s hidden treasures. Renowned for its rich architectural heritage, the town is encircled by nearly three kilometres of ramparts – a walk along them is the perfect way to soak up Dinan’s beauty.

French Riviera

French Riviera Highlights

Nice

From the picture-postcard shoreline to the lively Old Town, Nice enjoys the perfect balance between a seaside resort and a vibrant city. Its palm-tree lined promenade follows the curve of the beautiful Baie des Anges beaches, whilst the oasis that is Colline du Chateau offers the very best views over Nice’s red-tiled rooftops.

Cannes

An iconic coastal resort of the French Riviera, Cannes is renowned for its luxury yachts, designer shops, stylish hotels, and annual film festival. The charming Old Town offers an escape from the glitz and glamour, with its picturesque hillside setting, cobblestone streets, and fascinating historic sights such as the ancient city walls.

Menton

Considered the pearl of the French Riviera, this picturesque village is renowned for its lemon-growing culture. As one of the warmest places on the coastline, the unique microclimate provides the perfect setting for growing lemon trees – expect to see them everywhere! Other highlights include a beautiful harbour and charming old quarter.
