Join us and revel in the wintery delights of the historical city of Kraków and the picturesque resort of Zakopane.
Don’t underestimate the natural beauty found all around in Poland – the giant, scenic mountains, glittering waterfalls, and many breathtaking forests will transport you to another world. Visitors can take the opportunity to see the High Tatras from the stunning Palenica Białczańska before venturing via horse and carriage to another clearing, Polana Włosienica, with an incredible mountainous valley view. The largest lake in the Tatras – Morskie Oko – is located nearby, and is a true marvel, drenched in sunshine and colour. From lakeside to city life, journey to the incredible capital of Kraków and discover the amazing UNESCO registered World Heritage Site of the Old Town. With its medieval market square and Renaissance Sukiennice, known as the Kraków Cloth Hall, this famous district was once the centre of international trade and perfectly encapsulates the country, with deep beauty and even deeper cultural heritage and history. After exploring, sit down and relax at one of the many lovely restaurants and bars, and enjoy stunningly simple recipes packed with flavour. Try sweet kompot, a homemade Polish juice, or take on an alcoholic beverage like Wódka made from the finest Polish rye – the choice is yours!
Step into Zakopane, where traditional wooden houses dot the landscape, set against the majestic backdrop of the Tatra Mountains – nature’s perfect stage!
Old Town
Kraków’s Old Town is like stepping into a delightful storybook filled with must-see landmarks and charming cobblestone street – each with tales to tell! Right in the middle, the Rynek Glowny flaunts its title as Central Europe’s largest medieval market square.
Wawel Royal Castle
Wawel Royal Castle reigns over Kraków as the ultimate symbol of Polish pride! This castle complex is a mini-city of wonders, featuring the elegant Wawel Cathedral, the mysterious Dragon’s Den and the regal Royal Palace. It’s an attraction that’s impossible to resist!
St. Mary’s Basilica
St. Mary's Basilica stands tall and proud on the corner of Rynek Glowny – a Gothic fortress. With two bell towers that could rival the tallest trees, this church is a sight to behold. Step inside to find stained-glass windows and its show-stopping altarpiece.
One of the best things about travelling? The food, of course! Every destination has its own favourites – the dishes locals swear by and visitors can’t stop talking about. To make things easier, we’ve picked out four must-try treats from this region, with a little flavour of what they’re all about.
So… which one’s making your mouth water?
Known as hunter’s stew, bigos is a true taste of Polish tradition. A robust mix of chopped meats (often including pork, sausage, and sometimes game) is slow cooked with tangy sauerkraut and fresh shredded cabbage, then simmered with vegetables, herbs, and spices for a deep, savoury kick.
Oscypek is a distinctive smoked cheese made exclusively from salted sheep’s milk. With its golden-brown exterior and decorative, spindle-like shape, it’s as beautiful as it is delicious. The recipe dates back to the 18th century and is now protected by the EU, meaning only skilled cheesemakers in the Tatra Mountains can create it!
These traditional dumplings are filled with anything from savoury meats and cheese to sweet fruits and berries, then gently boiled until tender. Some are pan-fried for extra crispness, while others are served simply with a dollop of sour cream or a drizzle of butter.
Pączki are traditional Polish doughnuts that are traditionally enjoyed on Fat Thursday! Homemade and deep-fried to perfection, they’re stuffed with rich fillings like wild rose petal jam, plum preserve, or sweet creams, then topped with a dusting of powdered sugar, a drizzle of icing, or a glossy glaze.
