Local departure by coach or Home Connect service, then on to the North East and Newcastle-upon-Tyne for a four-night stay.
Today we visit Alnwick, home to the impressive Alnwick Castle – dubbed the ‘Windsor of the North’ – and pretty streets lined with unique shops such as Barter Books, one of the largest second-hand bookshops in Europe.
We then take a scenic drive along the breathtaking Northumbrian Coast. With wide, sandy beaches, quaint villages and ancient castles, this stretch of coastline is some of the most beautiful in the country.
Explore Durham, a city found in the ‘Land of the Prince Bishops’ and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The grand Norman-era Durham Cathedral forms part of the World Heritage Site and towers over the river that runs through the city. Uncover the fascinating history of the city, browse the fantastic shops or relax in one of the quaint cafés.
The tiny, 2-sq mile Holy Island is home to some of the country's most fascinating historic tales and holds a religious significance that dates centuries. Connected to the mainland by a causeway that is only accessible at low tide, Lindisfarne is much the same as when St. Aidan founded a monastery here in 635AD.
We return to Newcastle along the coast, calling at pretty Seahouses on the way.
Return home.
You will stay for four nights at the Leonardo Newcastle in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
